STUDENT DUE PROCESS RIGHTS There should be limits on the length of time an individual has to pursue complaints in order to bring the issue to closure. The board needs to determine the appropriate number of days, five for example, and place that in the blanks. There are limits similar to this in Policy 301.04, and the board may want to use the same number of days in that policy to ensure consistency. Student complaints and grievances regarding board policy or administrative regulations and other matters should be addressed to the student's specific teacher, activity sponsor or other certified employee, other than the administration, for resolution of the complaint. It is the goal of the board to resolve student complaints at the lowest organizational level. All students will be afforded due process as guaranteed by constitutional provisions. The process will be in accordance with state law, as well as with the provisions outlined in the Board's policies and procedures on student suspension and student expulsion. Rules for student conduct and appeal procedures will also be published in the student handbook. If the complaint cannot be resolved by a certified employee, the student may discuss the matter with the principal within _____ days of the employee's decision. If the matter cannot be resolved by the principal, the student may discuss it with the superintendent within _____ days after speaking with the principal. If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved by the superintendent, the student may ask to have the matter placed on the board agenda of a regularly scheduled board meeting in compliance with board policy.
